Cartier was founded by Louis-Francois Cartier in Paris 1847. Originally Cartier was a maker of fine jewelry however it was not long before the fine skill of Louis Cartier was noticed by many aristocrats of the time and soon Cartier became a supplier to the French Royal court. Years later in 1874 Cartier’s son took over the business and expanded in a big way,successfully managing Cartier watch boutiques in Paris, London and New York. Today, Cartier watches are distributed internationally and are world renowned for luxury timekeeping. Modern Cartier watchmakers still base their watch designs on the early fundamentals developed by Louis Cartier. The design of the Tankissime was heavily influenced by the allied tank forces in France during World war l.
